Evanesce: Design Sketching

Moving Forward with my Design process, I wanted to hone in on a path for silhouette choices. I chose to look at more 80’s styles that incorporated built up shoulders and drop waist skirts. This, I felt, lent itself to mapping areas for fabric manipulation. I liked the idea of combining dying fabric with the manipulations in order to push the theme of detailed focus areas throughout the collection. My main concern is that the silhouettes are too simple to be put in the couture target market. Do you think the manipulations balance out the simplicity of the silhouettes? I also am left wandering if the collection is void of too much color, or if done correctly and rendered well the collection will make sense. Let me know what you think.

Two of the fabric manipulations I used in the collection were based on the samples above. The first one is created by stuffing fabric with polyfill and tying the ball shape closed. I liked the effect; however, I feel there is an easier way to achieve the same outcome. The second sample is indicating the ridging manipulation by stitching almost a reverse fish-eye dart on the exterior of the fabric. The result is puckering of the fabric that creates a really interesting texture.
