Evanesce: Research and Development Process
Evanesce is a S/S Collection that focuses on the importance of detail. My main inspiration comes from the Illustrator , Richard Kilroy. His work is heavily detailed in specific areas but left blank in others. This juxtaposition of blank space with focus is what I was drawn to. I wanted to create a collection that follows a similar principle in the design process. By creating garments that are heavy in texture and fabric manipulation in concentrated areas while maintaining a free flowing design for the rest of the garment, I can establish this sense of distinction.
I wanted to choose a lighter color palette in order to challenge myself as I am normally more drawn towards darker colors. Creating with soft colors with pastels indicates a feminine mood which lends itself to a draped collection.
Fabrics include easily drapable weights such as chiffon, charmeuse, crepe, and mesh. Along with that I wanted to choose fabrics that have a distinct texture in order to play with fabric manipulation in new ways.
I like the idea of playing with texture by adding florals, embroidery, beadwork, or trims in certain areas that I want to focus on. This would enhance the juxtaposition between blank space and concentration.
