Brand Project: Burberry
For the Brand Project, I wanted to pick a brand that would challenge me in a new way. I knew right away that I wanted to design a collection that was print heavy and relied on the mixing of colors. I also wanted to look at more contemporary silhouettes when designing in order to juxtapose my normal aesthetic with other options within my portfolio. I chose Burberry because they are mostly a classic look; however, they don’t always fully embrace the mixing of prints. With such a presence of plaid, I wanted to take it a step further and mix plaids and plaid colors.
When choosing a color story, I wanted to take a leap and use bright, bold colors. I liked the use of complimentary color combinations, and I envision them being used in the plaid colorization and the mixing of fabric. This brings it into a younger market that embraces a fashion forward view on print.
I want to continue to use similar fabric types and weights as Burberry does. I’ve been starting to sample different versions of prints and plaid colors; however, I want to continue my research in print making. Right now, I have a broad color palette, and I would like to shrink it down as my collection comes together.
